When the Far-Right Eats Its Own: The Toxic Meltdown of Laura Loomer and Milo Yiannopoulos

In the toxic world of far-right internet trolls, it’s no surprise when once-allied provocateurs turn on each other like rabid dogs. The ongoing feud between Laura Loomer and Milo Yiannopoulos exemplifies this self-destructive dynamic, as two notorious right-wing agitators now tear each other apart after building their platforms on divisive, attention-seeking antics. Both once thrived on shock and controversy, but their fall from grace has now turned into a bitter public spectacle.

Laura Loomer, infamous for her bigoted rants, conspiracy theories, and failed political campaigns, has made a career out of desperately trolling the public. From chaining herself to the doors of Twitter after being banned for her anti-Muslim tirades to staging hopeless bids for Congress, she has mastered the art of self-promotion through chaos. Loomer’s antics — like storming Nancy Pelosi’s lawn to protest immigration or derailing public events — have become her calling card, earning her the ire of both her opponents and some fellow conservatives.

Milo Yiannopoulos, on the other hand, was once the reigning provocateur of the alt-right scene. His career nosedived after remarks about pedophilia ruined whatever was left of his public image. Still, like a snake shedding its skin, Yiannopoulos has tried to stay relevant by doing what far-right trolls do best: betraying their allies. And in this case, his former friend and ally, Laura Loomer, is the perfect target.

Yiannopoulos publicly exposed Loomer’s private struggles, revealing that she had been involuntarily committed to psychiatric facilities twice. He also claimed that the FBI won’t allow her to own firearms due to her mental health, which he gleefully listed as including bipolar disorder, histrionic personality disorder, and borderline personality disorder. These personal attacks were no mere jabs — they were intended to damage her credibility within their shared base.

This infighting highlights a broader trend within extremist circles, where alliances are built not on shared ideals, but on mutual opportunities for fame. When one figure rises above another in prominence, the knives come out. Loomer’s increased notoriety, especially her close ties with Donald Trump and other prominent far-right figures, was likely the final straw for Yiannopoulos, whose influence has waned since his fall from grace.

Loomer’s response to being publicly undermined by Yiannopoulos has been to double down on her shock tactics. While Yiannopoulos has largely faded into irrelevance, Loomer is still scraping for attention, aligning herself with Trump’s 2024 campaign in a desperate bid for continued relevance. She has somehow managed to alienate even the far-right faction of the MAGA movement, with figures like Marjorie Taylor Greene denouncing her for going too far, an impressive feat considering Greene’s own incendiary reputation.

It’s a fitting end for two figures whose entire careers were built on division and self-promotion. In the chaotic world of far-right trolls, there’s no loyalty, only opportunism. Loomer and Yiannopoulos, once joined in their gleeful trolling of the public, are now locked in a petty, self-destructive feud, each hoping to stay afloat by dragging the other down.

Their meltdown serves as a reminder that the far-right doesn’t just attack its enemies — it also cannibalizes itself. And in the case of Loomer and Yiannopoulos, their personal and professional downfall is as ugly and chaotic as their rise ever was.
