A stunning video has emerged showing the moment a Ukrainian artillery unit scored a direct hit on a Russian Buk M2 missile system, reportedly worth about 24 million pounds. The footage, released by the Defence of Ukraine, shows the missile launcher being obliterated by a precision shot from a distance of several kilometres.

The Buk M2 is a medium-range surface-to-air missile system that can shoot down aircraft, cruise missiles, and drones. It is one of Russia’s most advanced and expensive weapons, and has been widely deployed in the war-torn regions of eastern Ukraine and Crimea. According to some sources, the missile system that was destroyed belonged to the 53rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade of the Russian Army, the same unit that was allegedly involved in the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in 2014.

The video of the Ukrainian strike has been widely shared on social media, with many users praising the skill and bravery of the Ukrainian artillerymen. Some also pointed out the irony of the Russian missile system, which is supposed to defend against aerial threats, being taken out by a ground-based weapon.

The Ukrainian military said that the strike was part of its counter-offensive against the Russian invasion, which began in February 2022. The invasion has sparked a global crisis, with the US, UK, and other allies imposing sanctions and providing military aid to Ukraine. Russia, however, has ignored the international pressure and continued to advance its troops and equipment into Ukrainian territory.

The fate of the Russian soldiers who were operating the Buk M2 missile system is unknown, but some reports suggest that they were killed or captured by the Ukrainian forces. Ukraine has accused Russia of killing unarmed Ukrainian prisoners of war, and has released videos of some of them being executed by Russian soldiers. Russia has denied the allegations and accused Ukraine of committing war crimes and human rights violations.
