Instead of taking a holistic view, the GOP continues to stumble along, oblivious to the long-term consequences of its actions. Their chronic shortsightedness isn’t just bad policy — it’s reckless.

Obsessed with Short-Term Wins and Ideological Dogma

The Republican Party’s obsession with deregulation, tax cuts, and shrinking government programs, especially in critical areas like healthcare and environmental protection, shows a fundamental disregard for reality. The thinking here is laughably simplistic: “Cut spending now, reap political points, and worry about the fallout later.” But these immediate “victories” carry massive long-term consequences. Slashing healthcare funding might save money in the short term, but it leads to more significant public health crises down the road. Similarly, dismantling environmental protections in the name of deregulation is a surefire way to hasten climate disasters that will ultimately cost far more than the GOP ever envisioned.

Systems thinking acknowledges that decisions in one area will inevitably affect others, often in unexpected ways. But Republicans? They seem determined to ignore this fact.
