The Far Right’s Cynical New Abortion Strategy: Blame the Doctors, Not the Women

In a desperate attempt to maintain control over women’s bodies, the American far right has cooked up a new tactic in the abortion debate — vilifying doctors instead of attacking women. Forget the old narrative that women seeking abortions are irresponsible. Now, it’s the doctors who are the villains, supposedly manipulating or coercing women into abortions they don’t really want. Of course, this is just another smokescreen, a part of a calculated effort to criminalize healthcare providers, with the ultimate aim of obliterating access to abortion, all while pretending to “protect” women.

This new angle, painting women as hapless victims of a supposed predatory medical industry, is designed to avoid directly confronting women’s reproductive rights head-on. It’s a cynical ploy to rally public sympathy and shift the blame away from women. Meanwhile, doctors are left in a legal minefield. With restrictive laws in place, physicians are paralyzed by the fear of prosecution, even in cases where an abortion is necessary to save a woman’s life. Doctors are being forced to choose between adhering to the Hippocratic oath or facing jail time. And guess who suffers? Women, of course — denied timely, life-saving care in a system weaponized by political zealots.

Just look at the heartbreaking cases from Texas and Georgia. In Texas, a woman who miscarried was denied the care she needed because doctors were too terrified of legal repercussions to act. She developed sepsis, a condition that will affect her health for the rest of her life. This is not an anomaly but a predictable consequence of turning medical care into a battleground for extremist ideology. These legal games risk women’s health and lives daily, reducing them to pawns in the far right’s grotesque power play.

The ultimate goal here is to dismantle the healthcare system’s ability to provide abortions altogether. It’s not just about doctors — they want to undermine institutions like the FDA, ensuring that even medication abortions become harder to access. This isn’t some fringe idea; it’s a coordinated, well-funded plan designed to strip women of their rights and turn them into second-class citizens. In states with the most draconian laws, “maternity care deserts” are multiplying, where women — especially those in marginalized communities — can’t even find basic reproductive healthcare.

And the rhetoric? It’s as phony as it gets. By shifting the blame to doctors, the far right isn’t “protecting” anyone; they’re just dodging the wrath of the majority of Americans who, by the way, still overwhelmingly support a woman’s right to choose. But facts have never stood in the way of their agenda. They’ll push their lies and misinformation, all while dismantling women’s rights bit by bit under the guise of “compassion.”

What we’re witnessing is the steady erosion of reproductive rights once protected by Roe v. Wade. The battleground has shifted from the courts to state legislatures, where the stakes couldn’t be higher. This isn’t just about politics; this is about life and death for women across the country.
