Enter Bruce Zuchowski, a sheriff in Portage County, Ohio, who must’ve thought he was starring in his own reality show when he told people to start tracking the addresses of Kamala Harris supporters. Why? Because in the sheriff’s genius brain, if you’ve got a Harris sign in your yard, you’re obviously begging for undocumented immigrants to come live with you. Yeah, that’s the kind of mental gymnastics you need to pull a muscle for.

This all started with a little post from Zuchowski, inspired by a Fox News rant about immigration. You know, classic light evening fare. Instead of addressing actual issues, the sheriff thought it would be cool to target his own community members with some good old-fashioned passive-aggressive voter intimidation. His suggestion? Jot down the addresses of anyone with a Harris sign so they can house immigrants. Because apparently, that’s how we solve immigration now — stick ’em with the liberals!

Now, if you think people laughed it off, think again. The Portage County Board of Elections, maybe the last sane adults in the room, decided that maybe — just maybe — having the sheriff’s office in charge of election security wasn’t the best idea after that little stunt.
