Hey there, folks!

So, let’s chat about the Oath Keepers. You might’ve heard about them in the news, especially with all the buzz around their leaked membership lists and their involvement in some pretty intense political events. But who are they, really? And why’s everyone talking about them?

First off, the Oath Keepers are a group that’s been around since 2009, and they’ve got this core belief that their members should disobey any orders they think would violate the U.S. Constitution. Sounds pretty serious, right? Well, it gets even more interesting when you look at who’s in this group. A whole bunch of them, like two-thirds, are former military or law enforcement folks, and about one-tenth are still serving.

Now, you might be thinking, “Okay, but how many people are we talking about?” That’s where it gets a bit murky. Most research pegs the Oath Keeper membership at around 5,000 members. But hold onto your hats, because leaked data suggests their rosters boast a whopping 38,000 names.

And here’s the kicker: among those thousands are hundreds of U.S. public officials, police officers, and soldiers. That’s right, people who are, or have been, in positions of power and responsibility. It’s like finding out that a bunch of folks who are supposed to enforce the law might also be ready to break it if they think it clashes with their interpretation of the Constitution.

But before we jump to conclusions, it’s worth noting that some of these folks say they’re not active members or that they never really were part of the group. And let’s be real, being on a list doesn’t automatically mean you’re out there living and breathing the cause. Some might’ve signed up without fully understanding what the Oath Keepers were all about, or maybe they’ve since distanced themselves from the group’s more extreme views.

Still, the presence of this ideology within law enforcement and the military raises some eyebrows. It’s like having a bunch of mini-revolutions simmering within the very institutions that are meant to keep the peace and uphold the law. And with the Oath Keepers’ name popping up in relation to events like the Capitol riots, it’s clear that this isn’t just some theoretical debate — it’s real, and it’s happening now.
